An applicant I brought in for a lease takeover was undergoing a full?

Interesting situation. If the leasing manager knew your purpose and then directed the applicant to another apartment, it certainly seems unethical. If you had previously approached the manager about your situation and they agreed to screen any prospects you brought in, and then they approved your referred person, and then induced them to lease a different apartment, you might have a case for tortious interference or promissory estoppel. On the other hand, if the applicant came to the leasing office with their application, noticed other apartments available, and on their own origination inquired about one, thats just bad luck. You would need to pin down the exact details from the applicant - what happened when, who said what. This would be a small case, so attorneys might not be interested unless you pay a retainer, which may not be worthwhile. If thats the case, do some legal research online and, if you feel you can prove the elements of a specific legal violation (such as the ones I mentioned), contact the manager and request to be let out of the lease on those grounds. If they dont agree, sue in small claims court. Good luck!
